The park's 244,000 acres protect an expanse of mixed-grass prairie where bison, bighorn sheep, prairie dogs, and black-footed ferrets live today. And this is all true, but I think it is even more. It is a place where you can experience the beauty and peace of creation in an almost completely unspoiled way. The way to experience it more deeply like this is to stay in and around the park for an extended period of time. Stay in the park or in nearby Wall Drug then go into the park and go to a very quiet place and just be. Maybe walk silently and just see and feel the space. It feels like you might be very close to heaven. One very odd thing to know is that This park is very close to the Rosebud Indian reservation and the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation (Do you remember Wounded Knee). This is one of the poorest places in the entire country. Dogwood on the Merced

Spring time in Yosemite is a magical time where the Sierras come back to life after a harsh winter.
The Merced flows strong and hard. Throughout the valley the dogwoods blossom. The dogwoods along the river seem to bring the most attention as nature lovers and photographers will gather around them for the perfect angle.

Dogwood On The Merced This is an image of a Dogwwod bloom captured over the Merced River during the springtime. The branch that the flower is growing on comes into the image from the upper left as if the weight of the bloom is weighing the branch down. The bloom itself is captured slightly from the side but you can still see the beautiful large white petals flowing from the center of the flower to a bright yellow stigma. The leaves of the tree are a nice rich green. Behind all of this are the blue green waters of the Merced River flowing past.
