The giants among us are the trees. Who knows what living wisdom they hold?
Early haircut appointment for me this morning.
I listened to my hair stylist bemoan how persnickity people have become. She has a second job where they recently asked her to tone down her personality, and refrain from using profanity. It seems there have been complaints. I feel bad for her. She has been cutting my hair for over 25 years. She does have a potty mouth, but is a sweetheart who is honest and dependable.
She says people are changing and getting meaner.
I said yes, I think so.
After my haircut I went for a solitary walk in the park.
You can't beat the early morning sun and redwood trees combo for a quick reboot before heading home.

WOW. I practically cried! SO breathtaking!! Some of them are 2000 years old—the oldest living plants on Earth.
And after seeing these pics, I’ve also realized I’ve started looking like Richard Attenborough in Jurassic Park. <sigh>
Southeast Oregon coastline & northeast California redwood forests last weekend. At Myers Beach, the sky was so blue and pure and huge that it seemed to my senses like a giant crystal bell ringing. Remembering our trip into Prairie Creek Redwoods Park, where I was gobsmacked by the immense trees, their ancient lives, and the peace in that cathedral forest.

We love where we live.
Our river adventure took us down the Avenue of the Giants. It was a nice drive down memory lane for my husband, who spent every summer of his childhood on the Avenue and river at his family's summer home.

In my former career, I was into online learning, creative coding, and data visualization, even publishing a couple of books. I still love that stuff (#DataVis #Processing #p5js #d3js #JavaScript), but that feels like 1M years ago.

I had the opportunity to get out for a hike with our oldest grandson today. A change of scenery was nice. We checked out a redwood forest that had been logged on and off since the 1800s. The trees that are remaining are now part of a community forest. It was pretty much just us on the trail on this cold gray day.
We had fun trying to spot the white trillium blossoms that appear near redwoods in the spring.
The trails were not very finished and pretty muddy, but we hiked at least three miles. Our favorite feature of the trail was redwood trees growing in a circle around the old growth stumps.
I needed that.

Added benefit: everyone can feel like in kindergarten again. 
Giant #redwoods are thriving in the UK. The wet climate is good for them and they grow at similar rates to their native California. However, they do not reproduce.
Redwoods were originally imported to the UK by the Victorians as horticultural status symbols. Given how they tower over other tree species commonly planted in the British Isles, it's not hard to see their appeal.
