All 3 eaglets are doing well. Mom Jackie is covered in snow, sheltering those sweet babies with her 7000+ waterproof feathers.
The 2 Fort Meyers eaglets died in January after consuming an infected bird that had been fed to them by their parent eagle. The autopsy showed that they were killed by avian flu. Their parents are currently asymptomatic but being closely monitored. For the chicks, their death came after signs of fatigue & seizures.

The #Netherlands are starting a pilot to vaccinate chicken and other poultry against the #AvianFlu #BirdFlu. The pilot will run until 2027 and can be scaled up fast if needed. Let’s hope the vaccine works.

New Strain of Fatal Bird Flu
"At least four cattle herds in Nevada have tested positive for a strain of H5N1 bird flu never before seen in cows, state agriculture officials confirmed Wednesday, and respiratory symptoms like coughing and sneezing have been reported.
That bird flu strain, called D1.1 by scientists, was also linked to a fatal human case in Louisiana last year after exposure to sick birds. The D1.1 strain has emerged in recent months to dominate infections in wild birds and poultry flocks across North America."
