Slovakia is at 'critical crossroads' as months of protest threaten pro-Moscow Fico.

As massive anti-government demonstrations in Slovakia reach the three-month mark, protest organisers and political observers alike say that the country is at a crossroads in the face of populist Prime Minister Robert Fico's turn away from the EU and towards Moscow.

The protest movement aims to reaffirm the EU's importance for Slovakia.

#Turkey detains 37 over 'provocative' social media posts following arrest of #Istanbul mayor

Thousands rally outside Istanbul city hall for 2nd night over mayor’s arrest

by Mehmet Guzel and Susan Frazer, March 20, 2025

ISTANBUL (AP) — "Thousands of people gathered outside Istanbul’s city hall for a second consecutive night on Thursday to rally against the arrest of the city’s mayor, a prominent contender against President #RecepTayyipErdogan, which many view as a politically driven attempt to eliminate a key rival from the next presidential race.

"Mayor #EkremImamoglu was arrested after a dawn raid on his residence on Wednesday as part of investigations into alleged corruption and terror links, escalating a crackdown on opposition figures and dissenting voices. Several other prominent figures, including two district mayors, were also detained.

"The detention of a popular opposition leader deepened concerns over #democracy and sparked #protests in Istanbul and elsewhere, despite a four-day ban on #demonstrations in the city and road closures. "

Continued thread

I've been to nine #protests in the last six weeks and they have all been completely peaceful. The anger is extremely intense, but ours is the nonviolent side.

Don't be afraid to go to the protests. The MAGAs are getting scared. They're not even counter protesting, let alone attacking us. Going to the protests isn't dangerous.

*Not* going is what's dangerous. We're all eventually under some sort of execution order here, but we are still free to act. Let's protest!

It talks about the riddle of what exactly hit the crowd in #Belgrade #protest last night exactly at 7:11pm CET.
Attention is paid to the subjective feel of the protestants who took the hit (and it was hundreds if not thousands of them). Harry Potter fans among them described it as an icoming of the Dementor(s). Almost all of them agree on a possible definition of what happened as "evil air".
The incident will surely continue to raise controversy, and in the lack of any GA action (in fact, #students started the #protests months ago demanding that the General Attorney's office start doing what it's constitutionally obliged to do) we're looking up to investigative journalists to try to find out
what happened,
what device was actually used,
from where,
who installed the device
by whose command

@CiaraNi The good news: Here in Europe, we do see these #protests, in media like the Guardian (they have expanded their USA division), or Reuters shows protests even live. The USA have #independentMedia like @TheConversationUS - @TexasObserver @ProPublica and more, support them!

But journalists here have a problem: If you have the choice between 1 Mio people protesting in Seoul, 100 000 in Belgrade (all for Democracy), and 500 somewhere in the USA: what do you choose for reporting?

Over 100,000 protest in Belgrade at an anti-government rally.

More than 100,000 protesters converged in Serbia's capital Belgrade on Saturday in what was likely the largest in a series of anti-corruption demonstrations that have upended the Balkan country in recent months.

St. Louis Trump Protests!

A demonstration outside the John Cochran Veterans Affairs Medical Center in St. Louis yesterday.

An astounding 500 people showed up lining both sides of the street waving signs and chanting for almost two hours as cars honked and cheered protesters on.

People came from across eastern Missouri and Illinois and one thing was consistent in every conversation...

They’re pissed the f*ck off.

Just in case those opposed to Trump think there have been #protests in the US... here's an image of what tiny Serbia is able to do. Compare that today's and yesterday's paltry efforts in the US. Serbia today has had over 100,000- the US several thousand.
