I've not posted any of my Australian pictures for a while, so here is one.
At the end of this trail, through this woody tunnel, at the brow of this hill is a magnificent panorama of the ocean - which I will leave you to imagine for yourselves...

Once upon a time I was camping out on a beach in Greece. Every day this couple rode past twice - presumably on their way to and from work. One evening I managed to capture this shot of them. I wonder whether anyone there still does this kind of thing?

Yesterday, I posted a picture of some large rocks on a beach. Today, it's just a small rock, but I find all rock pretty fascinating when you get up close. I think it's something to do with the way it puts you in touch with deep time - all those millions of years it has spent, just getting to this moment...
Beach huts - temporary accommodation at its most idiosyncratic and whimsical. They provide a bulwark and shelter against the inclemency of an English summer. Our shores are fairly lined with them, and they always raise a smile.

It seems to me that 2025 is likely to be something of a Pandora's shed, and I'm still feeling a bit reluctant to open that door...
It's the last day of 2024, and here is a picture taken from the bottom of a long, slippery slope. There is a chink of daylight up above, and you might make it up the steps, unhurt, if nobody turns out the lights...
Alternatively, you can devise your own metaphor for the occasion.
Alan Moore's new novel 'The Great When' is a comic, occultist thrill-ride through London and its archetypes, written with characteristic inventiveness and aplomb.

Under the old Julian Calendar, St Lucy's Day was the shortest of the year, but the Winter Solstice is now eight days later.
It passed at 09:20 GMT, this morning.
'Tis the year's midnight, and it is the day's,
Lucy's, who scarce seven hours herself unmasks;
The sun is spent, and now his flasks
Send forth light squibs, no constant rays;
The world's whole sap is sunk.
