@revndm @GottaLaff absolutely.

The best and most impactful protest I was ever in was the huge #TMX pipeline protest in Vancouver a few years back. Even though it didn't stop the pipeline completely, it was a clear point in time where the population was in huge support of climate action related stuff and against more fossil fuel infrastructure. And it was the first big gathering combining First Nations as well as the general population.

For some quick back-of-the-envelope comparisons with current road, slow rail, and fast rail travel times according to Google Maps.

Toronto - Quebec City: 859km 🚙 8hr 🚂 10hr 🚆6hr (?)

Toronto - Montreal: 550km 🚙 5.5hr 🚂 5.5hr 🚆3hr (?)

Paris - Nice: 1000km 🚙 9hr 🚆 6hr

Paris - Marseille: 850km 🚙 8hr 🚆 3.5hrs

Boston - Washington DC: 700km 🚙 7.5hr 🚂 9hr

Detroit - Washington DC: 840km 🚙 8hr 🚂 14hr

Well holy high speed rail Batman, they’re building it!!

Initial planning cost of $4 Billion, final construction of the 1000km, 300kph line between Toronto and Quebec City could be up to the cost of 4 #TMX pipelines. ($80B).

Montreal to Toronto in 3hrs.

A large consortium is the winning bid and includes France’s SNCF and Air Canada.

CBCTrudeau to announce high-speed rail between Quebec City and Toronto | CBC NewsPrime Minister Justin Trudeau revealed his government's $3.9 billion five-year plan to connect Quebec City and Toronto with a high-speed rail line, in Montreal today.

Let me guess, the first “entity” a Canadian Pension fund takes majority control of will be some slimy oil interest. 🤮
In fact, I will go straight out on that limb and say it will be Trudeau’s Transmountain Boondoggle Climate Killer.

If it is my pension fund doing the buying you may hear the screams for miles….

CBCOttawa to remove investment cap for Canadian pension funds | CBC NewsFinance Minister Chrystia Freeland says the fall economic statement being released Monday will remove the cap that currently prevents Canadian pension funds from owning more than 30 per cent of the voting shares of a Canadian entity.

Hey folks, next month there’s an angry & lighthearted book coming out with my name on the cover: “Standing on High Ground”. It’s an anthology of writing from people who were arrested protesting Canada’s awful “TMX” pipeline project. I’m an arrestee/ contributor & co-editor.
Here’s its official home: btlbooks.com/book/standing-on-
Here’s a blog piece full of background and pictures: tbray.org/ongoing/When/202x/20

This project means a lot to me and I’d appreciate anyone passing the word along.

“It’s a great example of two irresponsible parties involved here,” said Stand.earth climate finance director Richard Brooks. “[Finance Canada] said, ‘No, we're not going to put more public money into this, but we’re certainly going to use our power to ensure this pipeline gets finished by backstopping private sector loans to #TMX.’

“Now at $18 billion from private banks being sent to this project, the cost of the project has now surpassed $35 billion.”

“The latest round of financing was a $2-billion loan provided to #TMX in late November, which as previously reported by Canada’s National Observer was secured to help the oilsands pipeline megaproject finish construction as it heads into the home stretch.”

“the #CER uses its public interest mandate as an excuse to circumvent consultation, especially with Indigenous groups, to ensure that oil and gas projects proceed.

The #TransMountainPipeline (#TMX) is an excellent example of this. Fourteen #FirstNations groups sued the CER for approving this project because it Indigenous Aboriginal title claims, fishing and hunting rights, and access to clean drinking water. “

“"Given that governments, production plans and targets helped to influence, legitimize and justify continued fossil fuel dependence, there is a real risk that such plans are undermining the energy transition by locking in long-lived fossil fuel infrastructure," Achakulwisut said.”

Looking at you Prime Minister Justin “Climate Champion but lets buy a Pipeline” Trudeau. Or you BC Premier David - “Still Loving the LNG” Eby.

CBCCanada is set to pump more oil and gas than ever, despite the alarming realities of climate change | CBC NewsCanada is among a group of top fossil fuel-producing countries on pace to extract more oil and gas than would be consistent with agreed-upon targets designed to limit global warming, according to a new report released by the United Nations.

Due to his own ineptitude over the past 8 years at sticking to his own convictions on CO2 emissions and action on Climate Change, he's left himself vulnerable to the Conservative’s mindless climate-denial populist rhetoric.

Remember that time he went to Paris and claimed 1.5ºC was the goal we could all shoot for. Now we know (h/t @breadandcircuses) of course that that was a lie and it was never really possible by then. We are just a few years from blowing through our Carbon budget and perhaps months from seeing the first year above 1.5ºC.

It was all a charade so he could get elected, and then turn around and bailout Trans Mountain, or go along with BC's disastrous LNG projects, or bicker with whatever oil soaked Premier is sitting in the chair in Edmonton, Regina, Victoria or St John's.

They are all responsible for our collective suffering now and for generations to come.

CBCTrudeau says there will 'absolutely not' be further carbon tax exemptions | CBC NewsPrime Minister Justin Trudeau is standing firm that his government will not make any further exemptions to the carbon tax after announcing a three-year break on heating oil.

6/ We continued across BC, topped-up at a BCH in Blue River (17min 75%-80%), ironically drove along the #TMX oil pipeline route before getting to Mt. Robson on the AB/BC border. Semi-fast (25KW) charger failed, so we used a FLO 8kW Level 2 charger (1.5hrs 44%-50%) to get over the hump and into Jasper. RFID card saved us again. No network no problem.
Lots of tourists. They had a LOT of questions about this family charging an EV with a trailer!
Long stop, but the scenery was OK.
