There was more water than I've ever seen at these falls on this particular visit.

Here is one of the picturesque treats I experienced on my way up to the summit of the mountain yesterday. A gorgeous section of frozen #waterfalls. Most of the 80 feet (24m) tall #waterfall was covered with snow, but this section was not covered, exposing its beauty. #WaterfallWednesday #mountains #hiking

This innocent looking trail I hiked last week leads to a steep class-II descent down the wall of a gorge. Reward-- a beautiful frozen #waterfall! Wearing only microspikes and having (intentionally) left my crampons behind, I chose to stop just before the steep slippery section-- still got a decent view of the falls! #FootpathFriday #Vermont #mountains

Here is another interesting small feature of the tall frozen #waterfall (85'; 26m) shown at the beginning of this thread. I carefully walked up the partially frozen stream to capture this #closeup at the base of the waterfall. Icicles with an inverted shape (I believe called "ice bells") hang inside an #ice cave and water seen flowing below. #Vermont #mountains #winter

Sometimes I find it difficult to capture the full beauty of a large #waterfall in a single image, such as the 85 feet tall (26m) frozen waterfall at the beginning of this thread. The section is roughly 6 feet tall (2 meters) which is small compared with the height of the entire waterfall which is 85 feet tall (26 meters). Long icicles are hanging from the top of what appears to be a small cavity. Snow frames the image from the top and bottom.

Happy #WaterfallWednesday! I hiked along a snowy stream to this gorgeous #waterfall last winter in the White #Mountains, #NewHampshire. It had just snowed making for a very picturesque scene. When photographing a waterfall the temptation is often to pop the camera on a tripod, add an ND filter and drop the shutter speed to 1sec to produce that classic, silky stream look.
Today, I did the exact opposite, cranking my shutter speed to 1/8000sec, with auto ISO and a wide open aperture to produce the abstract images below.
I'm happy with the results and will probably pursue this more in future visits to the woods.

Just now returned from a wonderful #backpacking trip in the White #Mountains, #NewHampshire. Looped around the base of a mountain that had #streams running along each side. Except for a short leg up/over a ridge, most of the 20-mile trip was along streams and a river! Many picturesque #waterfalls with the added bonus of falling asleep listening to the sounds of a nearby #stream! #WaterfallWednesday #waterfall #hiking #nature #NaturePhotography #landscape #photography #LandscapePhotography
